Food Pantry & Free Store
The Food Pantry, developed in 2007, provides Family Service consumers with basic food, clothing and household provisions. Family Service strives to fulfill the basic needs of every Family Service consumer once a month or in emergency situations with a 3-5 day food supply.
Help Us Prevent Hunger!
Approximately 90% of Family Service consumers live at or below the poverty level. These consumers often face the dilemma of spending their meager financial resources to purchase the medications which keep them mentally stable or to purchase food. Our goal is to make sure food doesn’t have to be a choice.
Community assistance is vital and you can help! You can make a difference by hosting a food drive—either a one time effort or on a regular basis—to help replenish our supplies. Our greatest need is for canned and dry goods, but we are also in need of toiletries and gently-used clothing.
We are eager to work with you in preparing fliers, arranging pick-up and delivery, providing press releases, or in any other way to ensure a successful food drive.
Food For Thought…
Thanks to the generosity of community donors, we are able to offer food assistance to over 190 individuals, serving over 2,000 meals per month; however, with the downturn of the economy, our supplies are severely depleting.
- The average cost of food has increased 5.1%since 2007.
- According to the Consumer Price Index, within the last year, a gallon of milk rose from $3.42 per gallon to $3.79 and a dozen eggs jumped from $1.37 to $2.06.
- In New Jersey, an estimated 39,000 children are at risk of malnutrition when federal school breakfast and lunch programs are not available throughout summer months.
